Craig Hodge Award Winner with Logo

June 19, 2023In News4 Minutes

A site manager from Oxfordshire has been recognised for his proven dedication and making his mark as one of the best in the UK after winning a NHBC Pride in the Job Award.

Craig Hodge, who works for Deanfield Homes at its Deanfield Green development in East Hagbourne, Oxfordshire, is celebrating having received a Quality Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job Awards.

Running for 43 years, the accolade (awarded by the UK’s leading new homes warranty and insurance provider) is the most highly regarded in the house-building industry and a prestigious benchmark for exceptional site managers. With only 443 winners selected out of over 8,000 entrants across the UK, the recipients are among the country’s best house builders.

Commenting on the win, Deanfield Homes Manager Director Peter Blades said: “We are over the moon for Craig. This accolade is a prestigious benchmark for remarkable site managers across the UK and is very well deserved, it’s a testament to the consistent high standards and hard work that has been delivered by the entire team at Deanfield Green. Craig has an outstanding work ethic and an unwavering commitment to building the highest quality homes for our customers. His invaluable work and dedication are a credit to Deanfield Homes.”

Celebrating his success, Craig said: “I’m delighted to have won the NHBC Pride in the Job award. Winning feels rewarding for both myself and the whole team who have helped to make the site what it is today. Knowing that we are delivering high quality homes to very happy customers makes the effort put in by myself and my colleagues at Deanfield Homes worthwhile.”

Judging for the awards is rigorous, with the current competition beginning in July last year. Each site manager is assessed across six key areas: consistency; attention to detail; leadership; interpretation of drawings and specifications; technical expertise; and health and safety. Thousands of site inspections and meticulous scoring and verifications have taken place to decide upon the winning site managers.

Commenting on the awards, Steve Wood, CEO at NHBC, said: “Congratulations to all the winners who should feel proud to have received a Pride in the Job Award. Pride in the Job is firmly at the heart of NHBC’s mission to raise standards in the housing industry. It is important we recognise the vital role site managers play in ensuring new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites and to exacting construction quality standards. This accolade recognises the best site managers across the UK and celebrates how much Craig has inspired his team by going the extra mile to deliver homes of the highest quality.”

The flagship competition has three categories for different sized businesses: small; medium; and large house builders; a multi-storey category where site managers are working on projects up to seven storeys for multiple occupancy; and finally the high-rise category for multiple occupancy projects over seven storeys.

The Quality Award winners will now go on to compete for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards in the autumn, with the national Supreme Award winners unveiled in January 2024.

Local School Children Get Their Hands Dirty with Donation from Deanfield Homes

Children playing with mud kitchen

June 6, 2023In News4 Minutes

Pupils from Hagbourne C of E Primary School have been given the opportunity to get their hands dirty and enjoy outdoor play with a difference, thanks to the donation of a mud kitchen from regional housebuilder Deanfield Homes.

The pupils, aged between four and seven, have been getting creative and developing their very own mud recipes to help aid their development and connect with the great outdoors. The complete life-like kitchen fits perfectly into the primary school’s outdoor play area and offers children the chance to experiment using a combination of mud, water and sand.

The kitchen has been made by local social enterprise RAW, using leftover wood that has been collected from construction sites across the Oxfordshire area such as the Deanfield Green development in East Hagbourne.

RAW is an Oxford-based social enterprise that helps businesses to create life-changing social and environment impact through its waste wood recycling service and by making high quality, sustainable furniture. Supporting those who have faced previous challenges in life, RAW also provides employment, skills and training, with 75% of its workforce having fought, and won, against issues such as addiction, criminality, poor mental health and homelessness.

For every order received, the money is invested back into RAW to employ and train more adults and young people in the community. The donation of the mud kitchen from Deanfield Homes generated six social impact hours which will be used to provide further employment and training.

Annette Gaskell, Sales & Marketing Manager at Deanfield Homes, said: “We are delighted to have been able to provide the mud kitchen to the children at Hagbourne Primary School and know it will be well used, especially as we move into the summer months. We’re delighted to continue our partnership with RAW which sees us use its recycling services on all our developments and support the local communities in which we build.”

Nicola Dobson, Headteacher at Hagbourne Primary School said: “We are over the moon with the mud kitchen kindly donated by Deanfield Homes. The children love it and learning through play doesn’t get much more hands-on than this! It’s a fantastic way to benefit a child’s physical and personal development and to teach them about how materials can be recycled. It’s wonderful to be supported by a local business and we are very grateful to Deanfield Homes for this generous donation.”

Deanfield Green is a collection of traditional homes, situated on the outskirts of East Hagbourne, offering homebuyers a semi-rural location with access to good local amenities. The development highlights the thoughtful design and high-quality build seen in all Deanfield properties.

Currently available is a range of two to five-bedroom properties with prices starting from £390,000. For further information, or to arrange to view the newly opened show home, visit the marketing suite which is open Thursday through to Monday from 10am – 5pm or alternatively visit or call 01865 269010.

Moving Home Checklist

Family moving home

May 24, 2023In News4 Minutes

Everything you need to know for a hassle-free move

Moving home is an exciting time, but navigating your way through the process can leave a lot to think about. From booking a removals company to switching over your utility bills, the moving home checklist can seem never ending! However, with some forward planning and expert tips, moving into your dream home can be just a few simple steps away. Here’s everything you need to know for a hassle-free move.

Get to Know Your New Home

You’ve secured your dream home and now it’s time to get ready for the big move. When moving into a new-build home a new home demonstration will be arranged which will give you the opportunity to walk through your home to ensure you understand how everything works and provide useful information about maintenance.

Plan Your Move

Once you’ve confirmed your move-in date, get comparative quotes from removal companies and remember to book this well in advance. If you’re packing yourself, start early and tackle one room at a time. Dismantling large furniture can be time consuming so it’s worth starting that well ahead in the weeks leading up to moving day.

Inform Others

With a new home comes a new address, so it’s a good idea to start making a list of the friends, companies and utility suppliers you’ll need to notify of this change. It’s worth putting in place a postal redirection service for the first couple of months in case anything has slipped through the net. Don’t forget to take final meter readings so you don’t end up paying for more than you’ve used.

Prepare for Moving Day

Think about what you’ll need for the first couple of days after you move in and make sure you pack a separate box with all the essentials and individual bags with everything the family will need before you get chance to unpack. Make sure you have easy access to important documents, pack drinks and snacks and don’t forget medication, bedding, phone chargers, electronic devices and anything else the family might need.

If you have children or pets, it’s a good idea to arrange for someone else to look after them on moving day to ensure the day is as stress-free as possible for everyone.

Get to Know Your Neighbours

When you’re moving into a new-build home, you’ll be joining a brand-new community where everyone is in the same boat! Knowing your neighbours helps foster community spirit, can start new friendships and create a support network in an emergency. Once you’ve settled in, why not introduce yourself to your immediate neighbours or even arrange a coffee morning for others who have recently moved in?

Buying Off-Plan - Your Questions Answered

Deanfield Gate Bledlow Siteplan

April 12, 2023In News4 Minutes

For many, moving home involves hours browsing property websites, visiting estate agents and viewing houses for sale. Buying a new-build home is a different experience as the home may not have been built before the purchase is made. However, buying off-plan can open up a host of opportunities, giving you the chance to get in early with the pick of the plots, have your say on options and finishes and to really make it your own.

Here we answer your questions on what it means to buy off-plan…

  1. What does buying off-plan mean?

Buying a home off-plan simply means purchasing the house before it has been built or completed, sometimes before construction has even started. You’ll be able to view brochures and plans and ask questions about your potential new home. In return for a relatively small deposit, you can secure a brand-new home and often get a say in the interior finishes.

  1. Can I choose my preferred plot location?

Absolutely, by reserving your home early, subject to availability, you have the freedom to choose your preferred position within the development. From your ideal layout and garden size to the best views, getting in early means you can pick the property that is perfect for you.  When buying off-plan you are in the rare position of being able to view the key milestones as your new home comes to life.

  1. Am I able to have a say in fixtures and fittings?

Depending on the build stage of your chosen home, you will have a degree of flexibility on the fixtures and fittings, including kitchen colours and worksurfaces, different flooring options and bathroom styles. In addition, you may be able to select certain upgrades, usually at your cost, ensuring that your chosen home feels like your home, not just any home, when you move in.

  1. Are there other advantages to buying early?

One of the benefits of buying a home off-plan is that the purchase price is agreed at the outset. This means you’ll have complete peace of mind knowing that the cost of your home won’t change and could result in it being worth more by the time you move in. Most mortgage offers last between three and six months, however, it always best to check with your provider in advance to ensure that they can accommodate the time scale.

Deanfield Homes is a registered developer of the New Homes Quality Board (NHQB), an independent body tasked with developing a framework to improve the quality of new homes, to provide more protection for homeowners and to ensure developers provide a better customer experience, so when you buy with us, you can buy with confidence. March 21, 2023In News3 Minutes

As we look forward to lighter evenings and the first signs of spring start to appear, we caught up with interior design experts Lifestyle Interiors to discover the top interior trends set to make a big statement this season…

Introduce Vivid Colours

Pantone’s colour of the year for 2023, Viva Magenta, is the perfect shade for the new season. The nuanced crimson red tone presents a balance between warm and cool allowing you to add pops of colour into your home and update the neutral palettes of greys and monochrome which have been popular for some time. The key decorating trend is to be more daring and expressive than ever before, make bolder colour choices, embrace more patterns and don’t be afraid to mix your styles.

Get Creative and DIY

Since the pandemic, we’ve seen more and more people get creative with their home interiors. One trend set to continue into 2023 is wall panelling; an effective and affordable way to transform your home. Wall panelling works perfectly in new builds as it helps to add character and feature elements. The opportunities are endless here – choose to keep it neutral or go bold with colour to create a feature wall.

Bring The Outside In

Houseplants are the perfect way bring a sense of calm to your space. With a pop of colour, greenery is a brilliant way to brighten up a space without resorting to manmade materials. From tall leafy plants in your living room to smaller herbs in the kitchen, you can help to purify the air and add a little extra flavour to your cooking.

Add Some Texture

Spring 2023 will see calm, natural materials and soft neutral textures. By introducing wood and natural elements to your styling you can create a calm space that’s sophisticated and on trend. Extend your entertaining space at home and make it cosy with natural textures such as linens, jute and wools. And as temperatures start to warm up, don’t be afraid to jazz up your outdoor space with a show-stopping rug, plush cushions and soft, warm blankets.

Interior design can be factored into many aspects of your home, and it really is what adds personality and character. By creating mood boards and understanding what you want to achieve you will be well on your way to creating your dream home.

The Benefits of New-Build Living

New Homes at Shipton

March 2, 2023In News3 Minutes

Buying new can come with a whole host of benefits and with energy prices set to rise again in the spring, recent research by the HBF states that the average new-build household could save £3,100* per year. The ‘Watt a Save’ report published this week, also revealed that 85% of new builds have an A or B EPC rating, while just 4% of older properties achieve the same standards.

With modern building techniques, new properties are proven to use far less energy than older homes, emitting just 1.4 tonnes of carbon a year, compared to 3.6 tonnes from existing properties. With built environment contributing 40% of the UK’s total carbon footprint, choosing new is the greener choice – now and for future generations.

This week is National New Homes Week and to celebrate we’re pleased to share our top five reasons to buy new…

  1. The Green Option

From the high levels of cavity wall and roof insulation to the double-glazed, thermally efficient windows, your home will feel warm and cosier in the winter and cooler in the summer. With homes fitted with A-rated boilers and many future homes to include air source heat pumps, your new home will offer the very latest in green heating technology.

  1. Low Maintenance

Buying new comes with peace of mind. With brand new kitchens and bathrooms, newly installed plumbing and electrics and a fresh coat of paint throughout the house, you’ll be able to spend your spare time doing the things you love, not putting right other people’s DIY disasters!

  1. Community Feel

There’s a unique sense of community on a new homes development, with your neighbours all moving in at a similar time. At Deanfield Homes, we build in village locations with a good range of local amenities, so our homeowners also become part of an established wider community.

  1. Stress-free move

Because you’re buying your home directly from Deanfield, there is no upward chain when you buy new. So, with a shorter, or chain-free move, your house purchase should progress more quickly, smoothly and with less stress.

  1. Ten Year Warranty

When you buy new, you buy with confidence. All new homes come with the reassurance of an independent ten-year NHBC warranty and our Customer Service team are on hand to provide extra  peace of mind for 2 years from completion of purchase. .

*According to research by HBF which compared average EPC ratings of new build homes vs older properties.
