A New Chapter for David
News
Retiree David Thompson had spent 24 years in his family home in Cheshire, raising his two children Lucy and James with his wife Janet. But when Janet sadly passed away in 2022, he knew it was time to make the move to a more manageable property closer to family.
David was looking for a low-maintenance, energy-efficient home and decided that buying a new-build property would give him the peace of mind he was looking for. But he was reluctant to compromise on character, wanted enough outdoor space to fulfil his passion for gardening and good-sized guest bedrooms for when his son and family visited from America. In the chocolate-box Oxfordshire village of East Hagbourne, David found his dream property with Deanfield Homes.
David comments: “It was a huge decision to move, but with five acres of land, the family home had simply become too much for me to manage. I came down for a weekend and began looking at new properties in villages near to where my daughter lives, but many of them were on large developments that seemed to lack character and a real sense of community.
“Deanfield Green was completely different. The brick-built homes were traditional in design, and had plenty of space and a quality finish. The house I chose was the Dalton, a charming double-fronted property with four bedrooms, two of which have ensuite, a spacious kitchen/diner, handy utility room and a separate study. There’s plenty of space for when I have the family to stay, but it also feels cosy when I’m here on my own.
“Having not moved house for nearly a quarter of a century, I was quite apprehensive, but I used one of the solicitors suggested by Deanfield Homes and everything went really smoothly.”
The village of East Hagbourne has also proved a welcoming community for David, who has already made new friends, is a weekly regular at the village pub and will be joining a local photography club. He is now looking forward to showing off his new home when all the family come together to celebrate Christmas this year.
David concludes: “I’m really happy here. I have a plaque in the hallway that says ‘Home Sweet Home’ – and that is exactly how it feels.”
There is currently a range of two, three and four bedroom homes available at Deanfield Green with prices starting from £349,950. For further information, visit www.deanfieldhomes.co.uk/deanfield-green or call 01865 269010.
Deanfield Homes Wins Prestigious Industry Awards
News
Deanfield Homes is celebrating success at this years’ Evening Standard New Homes Awards. The Gillingham at Deanfield Green won the hotly contested ‘Best Family Home between £750k-£1.5m’ category whilst Deanfields in Stanton Harcourt was Highly Commended for Best Small Development.
The awards, now in their 32nd year, are judged by an independent panel of property experts and recognise and celebrate innovation and excellence in new homes. Judges were on the lookout for the very best in modern housebuilding, considering factors such as quality of design and finish, value for money, energy efficiency, innovation and architecture.
After months of deliberation from the panel of judges, the much-awaited results were announced in front of leading industry figures at a glittering awards lunch at the end of September.
Annette Gaskell, Deanfield Homes’ Sales & Marketing Manager, comments: “We are thrilled to be recognised at the industry’s leading new homes awards. At Deanfield, we pride ourselves on building high quality family homes in exceptional village locations, so it’s fantastic for the whole team to gain national recognition in this way.”
Our award-winning home, The Gillingham, is a simply stunning five-bedroom home, designed with families in mind. A spacious 2,150 square feet of flexible living space includes three reception rooms ensuring everyone is catered for, whether for entertaining, home working, gaming with friends, or simply kicking back and relaxing in front of a movie.
The Highly Commended Deanfields at Stanton Harcourt in Oxfordshire, is sympathetically designed to complement the wider village and the use of Cotswold stone and natural slate roofs creates an extension of the local architecture and conveys a sense of a well-established community.
Our buyers can be reassured that we apply the same design, construction and customer service principles to every development we build.
5 Autumn Trends for 2023
News
As the leaves turn vibrant shades of red and gold and the air becomes crisp and cool, it’s time to welcome autumn into your home. We caught up with interior design experts, Lifestyle Interiors, to discover the top autumn interior trends to inspire your seasonal makeover…
Warmer and earthier tones
This year interior designers are favouring a palette inspired by nature. Think neutral earth tones such as brass, beige and orange. Consider incorporating these autumnal shades through wall paint, furniture, throw pillows, and accessories. Mixing and matching these colours can create a harmonious and inviting atmosphere. To create a more natural look incorporate wood accents.
Layering textures in textiles
This trend involves combining a variety of tactile materials like faux fur, soft wool, plush velvet, and chunky knits. Add depth and dimension to your space by draping textured throws or adding patterned cushions and pillows to sofas, chairs, or beds, guaranteed to make any room inviting. Hanging long drapes to line walls can also be a layering technique that adds warmth.
Accessories
To create a cosy space autumnal candles and scents are must-have accessories that provide a homely feel. They are more than just decorative items; they are essential to creating a warm atmosphere and transforming your space. Place them on your dining table to create an intimate setting, scatter them in your living room or light them in your bedroom to for relaxation and tranquillity. Fill your home with delightful fragrances with scents such as cinnamon, pumpkin spice or cedarwood.
Lighting is a key factor in colder months
Lighting plays a pivotal role in setting the mood during the colder months. Use more than one light type to allow for different uses and create ambient lighting. Warm lighting tones are an emerging trend this autumn with many choosing to swap from cooler white lights. Use different types of lighting to highlight features in your home such as artwork and furniture. Whether you prefer minimalist lighting or a statement chandelier the choice is yours.
Bring the outside in with a touch of autumn florals
Floral patterns are not just for spring and summer and designs can take a cosy turn with autumn-inspired motifs. Look for wallpapers, furniture, and decor featuring botanical prints with warm and earthy colour palettes. Choosing dried stems and flowers in muted but beautiful autumnal colours styled in an oversized vase can create beautiful table décor. As well as arranging florals, consider creating autumn wreaths to decorate walls or add to your door.
Transform your home this season to capture the essence of autumn inside. For more interior design tips and regular inspiration from our professionally designed show homes follow us on Instagram @deanfield_homes_ltd.
An Escape to the Country
News
Nicola Haskins and her partner Robert Davies had lived in Benson, South Oxfordshire, for eight years. But with new development seeing the village grow considerably, and interest rates on the rise, the couple made the decision to downsize their property and escape to the country.
The nearby village of East Hagbourne had always appealed to Nicola and Robert but, despite lengthy online searches, they had never been able to find a home that ticked all their boxes. That was until they discovered Deanfield Green, a new development by Deanfield Homes.
Nicola comments: “We really liked the idea of a new-build property and did some research on Deanfield Homes. We viewed a number of their existing developments and really liked the traditional style, the build quality and the well-known brands that were featured in the fixtures and fittings. All the properties we saw were beautifully designed and in keeping with their village locations.”
“We fell in love with the Caversham at Deanfield Green, a three-bedroom detached property which occupied a prime position on the edge of the development and had a lovely walled garden. There’s plenty of living space, including a generous second bedroom for our son Ben, and a third bedroom which I’ve turned into a hobby room where I can indulge my passion for sewing.”
But there was another member of the family for whom the move had to be just right – three-year-old working cocker spaniel Mabel. “She has settled in really well,” says Nicola. “With beautiful countryside literally on our doorstep, we’ve found some stunning walks, so she is definitely in her element in her new home!”
Village life is suiting the rest of the family too. It’s an easy commute to Newbury and Wallingford where the couple work and there is plenty going on locally with a pub, shop, village hall and St Andrew’s Church, which dates-back to the 11th century.
“We certainly have no regrets about moving here,” says Nicola. “It’s a lovely blank canvas and I can’t wait to turn it into our perfect family home.”
There is currently a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes available at Deanfield Green with prices starting from £349,950. For further information, visit www.deanfieldhomes.co.uk/deanfield-green or call 01865 269010.
Simplify Your Move with Deanfield’s Part Exchange Service
News
Coordinating the sale of an existing property with the purchase of a new home can be stressful. Buyers who are ‘proceedable’ are most attractive to sellers, but if you get stuck in a chain, or your buyer pulls out, you could risk missing out on your dream home.
Deanfield Homes’ Part Exchange scheme takes away the uncertainty and worry of the moving process, with Deanfield effectively acting as a guaranteed buyer for your existing home.
Here’s everything you need to know about using Part Exchange for a hassle-free move.
Stress Less with No Fees
Deanfield’s Part Exchange service, managed by Move with Us, removes the hassle of selling your home on the open market. It streamlines the sales and purchase process and saves you money as there are no estate agents’ fees to pay.
Relax and Enjoy the Journey
Selling your current home in the traditional way may result in you having to move out of your existing home before your new property is ready. This can be both inconvenient and costly if it means going into temporary accommodation. Using Part Exchange means you’ll be able to stay in your old home until your new property is ready to move into.
How it Works
The Application
The first part of the process is expressing interest in Part Exchange when reserving your new Deanfield home. We will check that your current home qualifies for the service and if it does, we will begin the process.
The Valuation
Move with Us will arrange for at least two independent valuations to be carried out on your existing home taking into account factors such as the property’s age, condition, location and recent comparable sales in the area. This is supported by their leading market appraisal report to determine an offer price based on making a sale within six to eight weeks.
The Offer
If you accept our offer, you will need to pay a reservation fee and we will take our property off the market and arrange a survey of your existing property.
The Marketing Phase
We will begin marketing your property and during this time you will need to allow access for viewings, by appointment. At the same time, we will progress your Part Exchange move through your solicitors. While the sale and purchase progress, you are free to stay in your current property until your new home is ready.
Secure Your Dream Home with Ease
Part Exchange is a cost-free solution that offers certainty when moving house and removes the worry of potential buyers delaying your move or pulling out of a sale. The process can be faster than a traditional sale too, as there is no need to wait to find a buyer. And with Deanfield Homes overseeing the whole process, you will have complete peace of mind.

Deanfield Homes Strengthens Leadership Team Amid Expansion Plans
News
Deanfield Homes has taken a significant step forward in expansion plans by appointing two key executives to its leadership team. The company has welcomed Liam Gilbert as Production Director, alongside Andrew Aldridge who joins as Land and Planning Director, in two newly created roles for the business.
Liam and Andrew both join the High Wycombe-based housebuilder as the company looks to significantly expand its presence throughout Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Hertfordshire.
Liam’s appointment as Production Manager is a strategic move that further consolidates Deanfield Homes commitment to excellence across its construction processes. Andrew brings a wealth of knowledge to his role, with industry experience spanning over 25 years. He has held senior positions with well-known housebuilders including Try Homes, Linden Homes and Hill Group and spent the last eight years as Land and Planning Director for Cala Homes’ Chiltern region. Andrew heads up a dedicated land team looking to drive the business forward through identifying and securing development opportunities in prime village locations.
In his new role, Andrew will focus on both unconditional and subject to planning sites, as well as option agreements for longer term strategic land, and will work with local planning authorities to deliver real benefits to established communities.
Peter Blades, Deanfield Homes’ founder and managing director, comments: “These key appointments come at a pivotal time for the business as we focus on growth. We are delighted to welcome both Liam and Andrew to the team where they will join Robert Davidson, Finance Director, and myself on the executive board and bring a wealth of experience to help us accelerate our expansion plans.”
Deanfield Homes has built an enviable reputation of building quality homes that help support and add value to already established communities. With plans to consistently deliver at least 150 homes per year within the next three years, this dual appointment will be instrumental in developing a strong pipeline of sites to fuel the company’s expansion.
The company is actively looking for land opportunities across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Hertfordshire, with a focus on small to medium-sized developments of between 10 and 100 homes in aspirational villages and small towns.

Oxfordshire Site Manager Awarded National Accolade for House Building Quality
News
A site manager from Oxfordshire has been recognised for his proven dedication and making his mark as one of the best in the UK after winning a NHBC Pride in the Job Award.
Craig Hodge, who works for Deanfield Homes at its Deanfield Green development in East Hagbourne, Oxfordshire, is celebrating having received a Quality Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job Awards.
Running for 43 years, the accolade (awarded by the UK’s leading new homes warranty and insurance provider) is the most highly regarded in the house-building industry and a prestigious benchmark for exceptional site managers. With only 443 winners selected out of over 8,000 entrants across the UK, the recipients are among the country’s best house builders.
Commenting on the win, Deanfield Homes Manager Director Peter Blades said: “We are over the moon for Craig. This accolade is a prestigious benchmark for remarkable site managers across the UK and is very well deserved, it’s a testament to the consistent high standards and hard work that has been delivered by the entire team at Deanfield Green. Craig has an outstanding work ethic and an unwavering commitment to building the highest quality homes for our customers. His invaluable work and dedication are a credit to Deanfield Homes.”
Celebrating his success, Craig said: “I’m delighted to have won the NHBC Pride in the Job award. Winning feels rewarding for both myself and the whole team who have helped to make the site what it is today. Knowing that we are delivering high quality homes to very happy customers makes the effort put in by myself and my colleagues at Deanfield Homes worthwhile.”
Judging for the awards is rigorous, with the current competition beginning in July last year. Each site manager is assessed across six key areas: consistency; attention to detail; leadership; interpretation of drawings and specifications; technical expertise; and health and safety. Thousands of site inspections and meticulous scoring and verifications have taken place to decide upon the winning site managers.
Commenting on the awards, Steve Wood, CEO at NHBC, said: “Congratulations to all the winners who should feel proud to have received a Pride in the Job Award. Pride in the Job is firmly at the heart of NHBC’s mission to raise standards in the housing industry. It is important we recognise the vital role site managers play in ensuring new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites and to exacting construction quality standards. This accolade recognises the best site managers across the UK and celebrates how much Craig has inspired his team by going the extra mile to deliver homes of the highest quality.”
The flagship competition has three categories for different sized businesses: small; medium; and large house builders; a multi-storey category where site managers are working on projects up to seven storeys for multiple occupancy; and finally the high-rise category for multiple occupancy projects over seven storeys.
The Quality Award winners will now go on to compete for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards in the autumn, with the national Supreme Award winners unveiled in January 2024.
