Merry & Bright: The Ultimate Festive Calendar for Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire

The countdown to Christmas is officially on. And with the festive clock ticking, we have collated a list of the best activities and days out across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. If you aren’t in the spirit yet, these glittering events will definitely help you to step into Christmas. Read on and start making some festive season plans.

Oxfordshire

Enjoy the festive season like a royal

Blenheim Palace is known for going all out during the Christmas season and this year is no exception. With a Christmas Market in The Great Court running until December 17th and a new Christmas light trail around the stunning grounds, the decorations will have you starstruck. Father Christmas will also be in attendance, so be sure to book a visit to Blenheim this year.

If Blenheim Palace isn’t enough to make you feel like a royal, book a day out at Oxford Castle. Meet Santa and his elves along the Christmas trail and discover the history of the Castle and Prison on a lantern-led tour. The trail includes stops for crafty activities, a wishing tree, samples of mead for the adults, one on one time with Father Christmas and plenty more festive fun.

Christmas time is showtime

For many of us, attending the Pantomime is a Christmas tradition we honour year on year, and 2023 should be no exception. This year, The Theatre Chipping Norton are putting on a dazzling rendition of Cinderella, perfect for the whole family. Be sure to book your tickets soon, as these are sure to sell out fast.

Take to the ice this white Christmas

Don your skates at Bicester Avenue Garden Centre at their ice rink, open until the 7th of January. Whether you’re a pro on the ice or a bit more Bambi, this is the perfect activity for couples or family looking to get into the festive spirit.

Warm up in Santas Grotto where younger members of your party will receive a gift from the hardworking elves. Santa Claus will be on hand until Christmas Eve to hear whether you’ve been naughty or nice.

Buckinghamshire

Skating with a view

For Buckinghamshire locals, Willen Lake in Milton Keynes are welcoming a brand-new ice rink just in time for Christmas which will stay open until January 9th. The ice rink will be made of real ice and will overlook Willen Lake. Don’t worry if you’re not an accomplished skater, you’ll be able to enjoy the other selection of rides, food stalls and fully stocked bar.

All I want for Christmas is…

The perfect place for stocking fillers and unique Christmas gifts, Waddesdon Manor once again opens up their annual Christmas fair. With charming independent stalls, a food village and a stunning backdrop, Waddesdon Manor never fails to disappoint, with 20ft twinkling trees and all the sights and smells of Christmas, you are sure to get in the festive spirit.

Shop local this Christmas

Support small businesses by buying your stocking fillers from independent sellers. Chiltern Open Air Museum will be holding a Christmas market with hundreds of goodies handmade by local people. The market will have jewellery, candles, preserves, alcohol and much more, all of which will make great Christmas presents.

For aspiring Christmas elves, there will also be craft activities, so you can handmake gifts for your loved ones.
