Help to Buy enabled us to find our perfect rural home
September 2021: There is much evidence that people are choosing to move to more rural locations following the Coronavirus pandemic. For couple Emma Goodchild (25) and Ben Wright (24) they were keen to move from the flat they had been living in for three years in Reading town centre to a more rural location but didn’t want to be cut off from London and what a city has to offer.
Emma comments, “We really enjoyed living in Reading, which was really convenient for Ben’s job as an accountant in London and my sales job in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Following the lockdowns, we realised that we didn’t want to live in a city centre anymore and started to see if we could find a more rural area, but still be able to commute to both our jobs.
“We had been looking at a number of new build developments and came across Deanfield Homes’ development, Deanfield Place in Cholsey late one Saturday night. We decided to put our details into the website to make initial enquires and were really surprised to hear back from Savills the following day suggesting we came and visited the development. By Tuesday we were visiting the show home!”
Ben continues, “We were really attracted to the size of the development, with just 16 homes and already impressed with the customer service we had received. It was also an ideal location with a train station in the village to London and Oxford and an easy commute to Abingdon for Emma.
“Having already looked at a number of developments on our search, we could see straight away how well the houses were finished and the extra mile Deanfield Homes had gone to put a high specification in the homes.
“It was things like oak doors and spotlights as standard, which were a premium elsewhere and USB ports in the plug sockets to make life easier, as well as an electric charging point on the driveway to future proof the home.”
Emma comments, “We fell in love with the three-bedroom detached Kinnersley which was slightly out of our budget but nothing else we had seen compared to it so decided to explore the option of Help to Buy. It was straight forward to apply for and there were no hold ups along the way; it meant that we could buy a home that would last us longer term when we start a family.
“The whole process was so straight forward and the customer service from Deanfield Homes and Savills was exceptional. We are so pleased we made the move, and our new home has really lived up to expectations. I pinch myself every time I wake up here!
“Every time we have people come round and visit us, they are gobsmacked that it is as nice as we have said, and they always say it is the best new build home they have seen. The three bedrooms are all a great size with enough space for a double bed in each of them and it is so nice having a garden, which is private and tucked away. We are so happy.”
Situated in one of South Oxfordshire’s most attractive villages, with the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east and North Wessex Downs to the west, Deanfield Place in Cholsey, Oxfordshire features a collection of sixteen quality homes which are ideal for young families, first time buyers and downsizers alike. All the homes are now either reserved or sold.
Help to Buy is an initiative open exclusively to first time buyers on selected Deanfield Homes, up to a maximum purchase price of £437,600. The scheme allows those purchasing a new home to buy with a 5% deposit and a 20% Government equity loan. A mortgage is secured for the remaining 75% of the purchase price.
Work has just started on Deanfield Homes’ forthcoming development Deanfield Park in Ickford, Buckinghamshire which will feature 66, two, three and four bedroom homes with a select number of plots expected to be launched off plan later in the year.
