Help to Buy enabled us to find our perfect rural home

Testimonials

September 2021: There is much evidence that people are choosing to move to more rural locations following the Coronavirus pandemic. For couple Emma Goodchild (25) and Ben Wright (24) they were keen to move from the flat they had been living in for three years in Reading town centre to a more rural location but didn’t want to be cut off from London and what a city has to offer.

Emma comments, “We really enjoyed living in Reading, which was really convenient for Ben’s job as an accountant in London and my sales job in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Following the lockdowns, we realised that we didn’t want to live in a city centre anymore and started to see if we could find a more rural area, but still be able to commute to both our jobs.

“We had been looking at a number of new build developments and came across Deanfield Homes’ development, Deanfield Place in Cholsey late one Saturday night. We decided to put our details into the website to make initial enquires and were really surprised to hear back from Savills the following day suggesting we came and visited the development. By Tuesday we were visiting the show home!”

Ben continues, “We were really attracted to the size of the development, with just 16 homes and already impressed with the customer service we had received. It was also an ideal location with a train station in the village to London and Oxford and an easy commute to Abingdon for Emma.

“Having already looked at a number of developments on our search, we could see straight away how well the houses were finished and the extra mile Deanfield Homes had gone to put a high specification in the homes.

“It was things like oak doors and spotlights as standard, which were a premium elsewhere and USB ports in the plug sockets to make life easier, as well as an electric charging point on the driveway to future proof the home.”

Emma comments, “We fell in love with the three-bedroom detached Kinnersley which was slightly out of our budget but nothing else we had seen compared to it so decided to explore the option of Help to Buy. It was straight forward to apply for and there were no hold ups along the way; it meant that we could buy a home that would last us longer term when we start a family.

“The whole process was so straight forward and the customer service from Deanfield Homes and Savills was exceptional. We are so pleased we made the move, and our new home has really lived up to expectations. I pinch myself every time I wake up here!

“Every time we have people come round and visit us, they are gobsmacked that it is as nice as we have said, and they always say it is the best new build home they have seen. The three bedrooms are all a great size with enough space for a double bed in each of them and it is so nice having a garden, which is private and tucked away. We are so happy.”

Situated in one of South Oxfordshire’s most attractive villages, with the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east and North Wessex Downs to the west, Deanfield Place in Cholsey, Oxfordshire features a collection of sixteen quality homes which are ideal for young families, first time buyers and downsizers alike. All the homes are now either reserved or sold.

Help to Buy is an initiative open exclusively to first time buyers on selected Deanfield Homes, up to a maximum purchase price of £437,600. The scheme allows those purchasing a new home to buy with a 5% deposit and a 20% Government equity loan. A mortgage is secured for the remaining 75% of the purchase price.

Work has just started on Deanfield Homes’ forthcoming development Deanfield Park in Ickford, Buckinghamshire which will feature 66, two, three and four bedroom homes with a select number of plots expected to be launched off plan later in the year.

The draw of a grandchild led us to our new home

Testimonials

August 6, 2021In Testimonials6 Minutes

August 2021: Jennifer and Simon Nicholls had lived in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire for 20 years and after their daughter and her husband moved to Witney in Oxfordshire they felt like it was time to return to Newcastle, where they were originally from and spend some time there.

Although they enjoyed being back in Newcastle, after discovering that their first grandchild was on the way, this made them suddenly realise that spending their retirement closer to family was what they really wanted to do.

Jennifer explains,

“When our daughter announced that she was pregnant and would love us to live closer to them, the draw of our future grandchild was just too much. We didn’t want to spend time away from them and be unable to build a relationship, so we decided to start looking for a home closer to their location in Witney.

“Moving into rented accommodation short term seemed like a good option as it gave us time to look around and explore the area, so we moved into a vicarage in Stanton St John on a six month let with a view to extend.

“We saw details of the show home launch at Deanfield Homes’ development in Shipton-under-Wychwood and decided to have a look as we hadn’t really considered a new build before. We were really impressed and liked the traditional look of the homes, together with the quality finish but we already had our eye on a renovation property. As the homes at Deanfield Grange weren’t going to be ready for quite a while and we had always bought second-hand homes, coupled with the draw of a project we put an offer in.

“I did keep thinking about the homes and village location at Deanfield Grange and was really impressed, but we were keen to move out of our rented accommodation as a new vicar was arriving in the village. Then suddenly the Covid-19 pandemic hit, and this led to the sale of the renovation project falling through.

“I mentioned to Simon that perhaps we should revisit Deanfield Grange and got in touch only to discover they had all been reserved. It wasn’t meant to be. Then a few weeks later we received a phone call from Savills the selling agent to say one of the properties had fallen through and would we be interested? Well, we jumped at the chance and knew straight away that the position of plot on the development was perfect for us.”

Jennifer and Simon purchased a four bedroom detached home at Deanfield Grange.

Jennifer continues, “when we first visited Deanfield Grange we knew there was something different about these homes. The location was great, in the heart of the village, and the homes were really pretty, built with traditional Cotswold style stone and laid out really well throughout the development, taking advantage of different aspects and angles. Overlooking mature trees and having a wild flower meadow included in the landscaping is fabulous!

“We were able to add a few personal touches to the home as it was being built and the after care and customer service has been second to none. I would definitely recommend Deanfield Homes”.

“It has been quite a journey for us and an upheaval having one plan and then changing it, but we have no regrets and are now able to see our grandchild regularly and know we have found the perfect home for our retirement.”

Best of both worlds for young couple at Cholsey

Testimonials

July 7, 2021In Testimonials5 Minutes

June 2021: Situated in one of South Oxfordshire’s most attractive villages, with the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east and North Wessex Downs to the west, you can understand why the homes at Deanfield Place in Cholsey, Oxfordshire have sold so quickly.

For newly married couple Louise and Liam Benson, both 29 finding their brand new three bedroom home detached home at Deanfield Place has given them the best of both worlds.

Louise explains, “I am originally from Surrey and Liam from Kent, and we decided to make the move over to Oxfordshire because we really liked the area and it gave us the opportunity to get on the property ladder. We bought an end of terrace cottage in Wallingford which we loved but after getting married at the end of last year we are keen to start a family so made the decision to start looking for a larger property in the area.

“We originally put our property on the market in the winter of 2020 but then the pandemic hit so we decided it wasn’t the right time to sell. We eventually put it back on when restrictions started to ease slightly in September 2020.

“During our search I had seen several adverts for Deanfield Homes’ new development in Cholsey but didn’t really think we were ‘new build people’ as we had been living in a cottage dating back to 1850 but we thought we had nothing to lose and decided to make an appointment to view.

“As soon as we walked into the show home we fell in love with it. Everything was so clean and new and designed the way we like a home with a spacious kitchen, dining room and a separate lounge – it was just perfect. The standard of fixtures and fittings was also really good and we couldn’t believe that a three bedroom detached home was within our budget.”

Liam and Louise purchased a three bedroom detached Kinnersley at Deanfield Place.

“The development and area really offers us the best of both worlds, which was why we were so keen to stay close to Wallingford. I work in Oxford as a finance manager and Liam is a head chef, also in Oxford and it’s so easy to commute to the city; moving here has just added five minutes to our journey.” Continues Louise.

“There are really good employment opportunities in this area and also great places to go out but you can also enjoy the countryside living and being right by the river we are able to hear all the wildlife. It’s a great place to start our family.

“Deanfield Homes have been so helpful throughout the whole process and nothing has been too much trouble. We were able to have a walk around our house the week before we moved in to check everything and they also offer an excellent online customer portal which holds all our documents along with a big printed handbook which we got with our keys to help us with everything. You wouldn’t get that with a second hand home!”

Recommendation leads to our new home

Testimonials

There is nothing better than a personal recommendation when it comes to buying a new home, which is exactly what happened to Jane and David McMorrow, who had been living in Northwood, North West London for 24 years but were keen to have a more rural lifestyle to enjoy their retirement.

Jane and David had always been interested in the property market and kept a regular eye on the market and different areas, and once their children had moved away to central London and Hertford, they had the freedom to be able to move to a different area.

Jane comments, “We always knew we didn’t want to spend our retirement in Northwood so over time had gradually started a decluttering exercise. Then one day a friend of David’s told him about Deanfield Homes and the lovely new homes they were building in the Cotswolds and suggested they could be exactly what we were after.

“We had always had older houses and never considered buying new, but there was something intriguing about a new build in the Cotswolds and the stunning location that really caught our attention.

“In early 2020, we decided to visit the show home and have a look around the development and immediately fell in love with it. We loved the layout with the larger kitchen/diner and also the fact that there were still smaller spaces to enjoy as well. It also had a separate utility room which was a real plus point.

“We were used to older properties, and our home was Victorian, but we felt that we had completed more than enough home improvement projects. The thought of something being brand new was really appealing.

“We were fortunate enough to get an offer on our home quite quickly, which we accepted, but with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic the market became uncertain, and it resulted in the sale falling through. We kept hitting an issue which was really disheartening so decided to take our house off the market and to wait.

“We were still interested in the Elstow and when we got a call out of the blue one day from a local estate agent offering to sell our home, we decided to go for it again and were successful in getting another offer. This really motivated us into moving quickly and this time we were successful in securing an Elstow.

“Throughout the buying process the team at Deanfield Homes and Savills were so helpful and kept us fully informed, sending us regular updates and photos of the progress. We were also able to visit during the breaks in lockdowns and see the house from the outside, but we weren’t able to walk through it until just before completion.

“We absolutely love our new home. It’s light, airy and spacious and the development is a lovely size. Everyone seems so friendly already and we’re looking forward to joining in village life. We’re also keen to explore the many walks in the stunning countryside and to entertain friends and family. We’ve definitely made the right move and couldn’t be happier.”

It’s all about location, location, location for downsizers

Location is still without doubt one of the most important factors when choosing a new home, and this is no exception for retired couple John and Bev Robson who have recently moved into their new home at Deanfield Grange, Shipton-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire.

John and Bev had been living in a seven bedroom home near Worcester for 14 years and with their children now grown up and moved away, they felt it was an ideal time to make a change and downsize.

John comments, “We really liked where we lived but with the children moved out, the upkeep of the house was starting to get too much, and we really didn’t need all the space. We had been looking for about two years at various areas in the Cotswolds; one of our daughters now has four year old twin boys and we spend two days a week looking after them which means a long journey back and forth to Banbury.

“We have only ever lived in a brand new home, so we had our hearts set on finding another one and with our son in Southmoor we felt the Cotswolds was an ideal location.

“After looking at a number of developments by larger housebuilders which we felt lacked character, we continued to drive around the area exploring and researching the best locations. Then one afternoon we came across Deanfield Homes’ new development in Shipton-Under-Wychwood and decided to look further.”

Bev continues, “We were instantly taken with the village location, in the heart of the sought after village and we loved the fact that you could walk to the pub and shop and be surrounded by lovely countryside. Being a small development, we were also really impressed with the way it was laid out and the character of the homes using traditional Cotswold stone.

“As we hadn’t sold our existing home yet, we expressed our interest but had to wait. Fortunately, we managed to secure a buyer quite quickly after and the very second it was confirmed we made another visit to Deanfield Grange where we looked at the development in more detail and were delighted to be able to reserve a four bedroom detached Farleigh home.

“Buying a new home is always considered to be really stressful, but the team at Deanfield Homes were so helpful. We had a long chain and they kept in touch, chasing for updates from solicitors within the chain to help make the process as easy as possible.

“With natural delays due to Covid, we made the decision to go ahead with the sale of our existing home and moved into our son and then daughter’s homes before being able to move into Deanfield Grange.”

Bev continues, “It’s great to be finally in and the home is just perfect, living up to everything we had before in our old home. The quality of the build is extremely high, and we love the look and design. I just love new build homes and how they move on with their design and technology, along with everything being brand new. We couldn’t be happier.”

John concludes, “We have been so impressed with the service we have received and the quality of our new home that we have already recommended our son and future daughter-in-law to look at a future Deanfield Homes development.”

Couple escapes to the countryside

Testimonials

May 18, 2021In Testimonials6 Minutes

When teenage children leave to go to university its often a time when parents start to reassess where they are living, now they no longer have ties to schools. For couple, Chris and Sian Theaker (both 52), who had been living in South East London for 20 years, now seemed like the ideal time to leave the city and escape to the countryside.

Chris comments, “We had been living in Bromley but in our hearts, we really connected with the countryside, so once our three children were all settled in university, it felt like the right time to look for somewhere new to live. With two of our children at university in Cardiff and the other in London, the Cotswolds seemed like an ideal location in between both.

“Our existing house was already under offer, so we spent several weekends exploring the area and looking at various properties. We were keen to keep our options open looking at both new build and older properties, so we weren’t restricted. We really liked the look of Shipton-under-Wychwood so decided on a family trip to go and view four properties one weekend, including Deanfield Homes’ new development.

“Deanfield Grange was last on our list for that day and on paper it didn’t quite tick all the boxes, but as soon as we visited the show home we were so impressed. We really liked the bespoke style and layout of the development, with the various different house types and also the quality was really obvious, from the materials used to the specification inside. We were made to feel really welcome and had a tour of the site and discussed our options.

“As soon as we got back into the car, we asked the children what they preferred, and they all said Deanfield Grange! What really stood out for us was the open plan feel of the home and in particular, the kerb appeal – it just looked so perfect with the traditional Cotswold stone. There was also a reasonable sized garden and as I work from home, a separate study was a real selling point.”

Chris and Sian decided to reserve the four bedroom detached Fitzroy home at Deanfield Grange.

“We already had a buyer lined up who had offered us the full asking price, but a few weeks later and the impact of Covid, understandably deadlines kept extending which resulted in our buyer’s buyer pulling out and the chain collapsed. We were fortunate that another buyer came forward and put in another offer at a slightly reduced rate, but this also fell through.

“We were really happy when our original buyer came back and offered again, which we accepted and were then able to speed through the exchange and completion of our new home at Deanfield Grange.

“We love our new house and the development; everything is first class and any slight issue we may have is sorted by Deanfield Homes after sales team which  is outstanding. It’s such a practical home and the space works really well for us. The fibre optic broadband is also brilliant for working from home and really feels like the home is future proof.

“We are so impressed with Deanfield Homes that I have already recommended them to a friend who has been looking for a new home. It’s wonderful being back in the countryside and there are also great connections for when the children come home, with train lines from the village direct to London. We couldn’t be happier.”

We never expected a new build home to be so nice

Testimonials

May 18, 2021In Testimonials6 Minutes

Anne and Eric Decker had been living in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire for many years but upon reaching retirement were keen to move closer to their daughter and son-in-law in Witney, Oxfordshire.

Anne comments, “We always liked the idea of retiring to the Cotswolds, and with our daughter living in Witney, it made perfect sense to move closer to them. We put an offer in for a converted barn in Ascot-under-Wychwood but at the last minute it fell through. As we still had a buyer for our home, we decided to move into rented accommodation to give us more time to find exactly what we wanted.

“We rented a property in the neighbouring village, Milton-under-Wychwood and continued to look around. We had always had our hearts set on an older property but nothing was really appealing to us. Then one afternoon we were out for a walk and passed Deanfield Homes’ development in Shipton-under-Wychwood.”

Eric continues, “We had seen the development being built, but were adamant we didn’t want a new-built home. Then on our walk Anne suggested we just go and have a look around out of interest, so we did.”

“We were totally taken by surprise,” says Anne. “We expected new builds to be boxy and small with lots of homes in one development, but Deanfield Grange was totally different. We viewed the show home and couldn’t get over the quality of the build and the fixtures and how beautifully it was laid out. We had never expected it to be so nice.

“We looked at the plans and got really excited. We both wanted a house that had a fireplace with a wood burning stove, which was included in the design and we wanted a home facing in a good direction to make the most of the garden. We both said, it has to be this particular plot and a few days later we had reserved it.”

Eric and Anne reserved a four bedroom Fitzroy at Deanfield Grange in December 2019.

“Although we were both keen on an older property, the traditional-style Cotswold stone the homes have been built in really adds some character and we love the way the development has been laid out. The rooms are a really nice size, particularly the living room and the advantage of it being new build is that there will be less maintenance in years to come. As we reserved so early in the build programme we were also able to make a few changes to the kitchen to accommodate our American fridge freezer and our diner set.” Said Eric who is originally from USA.

Anne continues, “Our daughter had our first grandchild last year so it is wonderful to now be living close by and able to enjoy him growing up. We have already converted one of the bedrooms into his room and can’t wait for them to be coming over more often.

“We are extremely impressed with our experience through Deanfield Homes. Despite the obvious delays and restrictions through Covid-19, they kept us fully informed along the way, sending us photographs of the house on a regular basis as we weren’t able to physically visit and have been so helpful and professional.

“Before moving I told Eric that I still wanted to be able to hear the owls at night in our new home, and on our first night it was a wonderful surprise to hear them. We are so happy to have made this move.”

A new build home gives us an easier way of life in our retirement

Testimonials

April 13, 2021In Testimonials6 Minutes

When it comes to choosing the perfect home there are many factors to consider. For Louise (67) and Stephen (67) Painter, who had lived in a Victorian house in Chinnor, Oxfordshire for nearly 30 years, the work and cost of upkeeping it was proving too much.

Louise and Stephen realised that a new build home would mean less maintenance and could offer something different in their retirement years so started looking around the area.

Louise takes up the story. “We had raised our children in this family home. It was a lovely size and great for family get togethers, but having retired, the cost of keeping it up to date was becoming an issue. We had looked at the new build developments in the area but nothing really appealed to us, so when we went into the first lockdown, we decided to take the time to do some outstanding jobs that needed doing on the house.

“With the easing of lockdown, there was renewed interest coming through from the estate agent that we had previously had our house for sale with. Several interested buyers came to view the property and very quickly we had offers, but nowhere in mind to move to.

“With our three daughters living in Devon, Thame and Banbury we decided to broaden our search area. We hadn’t looked West of Oxford before so began researching the area looking at the new developments on offer. We came across Deanfield Homes’ development in Shipton-Under-Wychwood and arranged to visit the show home.

“We made an appointment to view the show home one Sunday in July 2020 and straight away we knew the house was different to others we had looked at. It was also the first development where we both said – we like it! Nearly all the four bedroom homes had been reserved but it was in fact the show home we particularly liked. Jackie the sales advisor informed us that it hadn’t been released for sale yet but we expressed our interest and asked to be kept informed.

“We really liked the spacious open plan kitchen/breakfast/family room which had patio doors leading out to the garden and the added bonus of patio doors also in the lounge, which wasn’t the case in many of the other four bedroom homes. The southerly facing garden was also a big draw.

“We decided to visit again the following week and still really liked the home as well as it’s location, with the lovely market town of Chipping Norton just a ten minute drive away.

“We went away for a holiday to Northumberland and whilst there were contacted to ask if we wanted to put in an offer. We jumped at the chance and were delighted when our offer was accepted.”

Louise and Stephen reserved the four bedroom Elstow show home at Deanfield Grange.

“The house is a very good design with decent sized bedrooms and a good sized study for my husband to work in. There is enough space for everyone, whether watching football in the TV/dining room, sitting round the table in the kitchen, or relaxing in the lounge.

“We also really noticed how warm the home is compared to our older home and with everything being brand new it works, which means less time needed to look after the house and more time to enjoy our retirement, playing golf or music amongst other activities.

“I would really recommend Deanfield Homes as they have been really helpful and polite. Moving from a home you have lived in for 30 years can be really daunting but everything went as smoothly as it could and we couldn’t be happier.”

We had always been put off buying a new build home after a few stories from friends, but after seeing that Deanfield Homes was building locally, we both felt we should stop listening to other people’s opinions and view it for ourselves.

“We both really loved the show home and the layout of the development at Deanfield Grange immediately. As soon as we walked into the home there was a feeling of space, with high ceilings giving the feeling of spaciousness. We were also really impressed with the quality of the finishes throughout and the attention to detail. We had always really wanted a log burning stove and were thrilled to find it was an option with the house. The homes are designed using Cotswold stone, which we love and it really gives the home the look of an older character property with all the benefits of a new build, modern home inside.

“The whole buying process was really good. The sales advisor, Jackie was excellent and gave us time to look around and consider our options. She wasn’t pushy like some estate agents can be and made it as easy and smooth as it could possibly be. I would highly recommend Deanfield Homes for the quality of the homes they have created and also their customer service. Nothing is too much trouble and the after care service is excellent. My husband is already talking about finding another Deanfield Home for when we retire because we have been so spoilt with this one!”
