Couple escapes to the countryside

When teenage children leave to go to university its often a time when parents start to reassess where they are living, now they no longer have ties to schools. For couple, Chris and Sian Theaker (both 52), who had been living in South East London for 20 years, now seemed like the ideal time to leave the city and escape to the countryside.

Chris comments, “We had been living in Bromley but in our hearts, we really connected with the countryside, so once our three children were all settled in university, it felt like the right time to look for somewhere new to live. With two of our children at university in Cardiff and the other in London, the Cotswolds seemed like an ideal location in between both.

“Our existing house was already under offer, so we spent several weekends exploring the area and looking at various properties. We were keen to keep our options open looking at both new build and older properties, so we weren’t restricted. We really liked the look of Shipton-under-Wychwood so decided on a family trip to go and view four properties one weekend, including Deanfield Homes’ new development.

“Deanfield Grange was last on our list for that day and on paper it didn’t quite tick all the boxes, but as soon as we visited the show home we were so impressed. We really liked the bespoke style and layout of the development, with the various different house types and also the quality was really obvious, from the materials used to the specification inside. “As soon as we got back into the car, we asked the children what they preferred, and they all said Deanfield Grange! There was also a reasonable sized garden and as I work from home, a separate study was a real selling point.”

“We already had a buyer lined up who had offered us the full asking price, but a few weeks later and the impact of Covid, understandably deadlines kept extending which resulted in our buyer’s buyer pulling out and the chain collapsed. We were fortunate that another buyer came forward and put in another offer at a slightly reduced rate, but this also fell through.

“We were really happy when our original buyer came back and offered again, which we accepted and were then able to speed through the exchange and completion of our new home at Deanfield Grange.

“We love our new house and the development; everything is first class and any slight issue we may have is sorted by Deanfield Homes after sales team which  is outstanding. It’s such a practical home and the space works really well for us. The fibre optic broadband is also brilliant for working from home and really feels like the home is future proof.
