April 2019: When it comes to buying a new home, it is often said that location is one of the most important factors to consider. For Gavin and Kate Shepheard, they loved the location they were already living in but were just outgrowing their home.

Gavin comments, “We have lived in Ducklington for eight years and love the location and strong village community, but the house was just getting too small with three small children and two dogs.

“We were very settled in the village, which is perfect for families. One afternoon, Kate came home from a dog walk and mentioned that a small development of new homes were being built on the other side of the village with larger houses and suggested we explored it further.”

“We hadn’t looked properly into moving and I was only really interested in doing so if it offered us more space than we currently had. However, Kate was keen to take us all down there so we visited Deanfield Meadow one weekend and before we knew it we had reserved a new home.”

Gavin and Kate reserved a four bedroom detached Elstow home at Deanfield Meadow in Ducklington, Nr Witney, Oxfordshire.

Gavin continues, “We already had a four bedroom home but the layout of the Elstow really suits a young, modern family and the way we live, as well as giving us 30% more space. We liked the open-plan layout of the kitchen/dining/family room but also the additional space in the form of a TV/dining room, separate living room and a study.

“We were also very impressed with the quality of build of the homes and the size of the development. Buying from a smaller housebuilder also appealed to us as there is a much more personal touch with everything.

“Since they started building in Ducklington, Deanfield Homes has also been actively involved in the local community, contributing towards the local school and pre-school, which we like as our oldest daughter attends the local school and our twins are currently at the pre-school, so it feels like they are investing in their future.”

Deanfield Meadow features fourteen homes for private sale and twelve affordable homes, of which are now all sold.

A downsizers dream…

Testimonials

Making the decision to downsize can often be quite difficult, especially if there is the thought of having to move to a different area to the one you have lived in for many years. However, this was not the case for James and Dorothy Postles who were fortunate to move to a new home in the same village they have been living in for 38 years.

James comments, “We moved to Ducklington 38 years ago to a 300 year old cottage which we loved and raised our daughter in. We were extremely settled and enjoyed having our two granddaughters to stay regularly but started to realise that the house was getting too much in terms of maintenance and the garden and orchard involved quite a lot of upkeep.

“Dorothy started to do some research and looking at homes in the area. We decided to put our home on the market and look at homes in Witney but didn’t really like the feel of them. Then we discovered that a small development was going to be built in the village by Deanfield Homes. We couldn’t believe it and were keen to find out more.

“We visited the development and really liked the fact that it was small with just 26 homes and they were a lovely size with generous gardens. In addition, buying a new home meant everything was brand new and modern and wouldn’t need very much maintenance. Fortunately, our home sold so we were able to reserve a four bedroom detached home, The Claydon.

“As we hadn’t moved for over 35 years, the thought of buying a new home did seem somewhat daunting, but Deanfield Homes were excellent, giving us such personal service and talked us through the whole process and kept us up to date throughout.”

Deanfield Meadow in the village of Ducklington, near Witney, Oxfordshire features fourteen homes for private sale and twelve affordable homes. The homes are now all reserved.

James continues, “The house is just perfect, and we particularly love the large master bedroom with dressing area and en-suite for us and also have plenty of room for our teenage granddaughters to come and stay.

“It has been wonderful as we have been able to keep the same lifestyle in the village and although we have only been here for a couple of months, it already feels like we have always been here. We are so settled.”

Deanfield Homes has just launched its latest development, Deanfield Grove in Tackley from plan with two reserved already. A recent report has revealed that more than 420,0001 people in Britain have been helped onto the housing ladder with the Government’s Help to Buy scheme. This is just the case for one first time buyer, who has just moved into her first home, a three bedroom semi-detached home at Deanfield Meadow in Ducklington, Nr Witney, using Help to Buy.

Lauren Davies, 29, grew up in Witney and moved to Bermuda for two years when she was 23. Upon returning, she rented in London for two years before moving into her boyfriend’s property. When the relationship finished she decided she wanted to move back to the Witney area to live closer to her friends and family.

Lauren comments, “I work for VW in Didcot which is not too far from Witney and was really keen to move back and be closer to my parents, grandparents and friends. I started looking around but couldn’t find anything I liked.

“I then noticed that Deanfield Homes were building a new development just outside Witney. However, I thought it was out of my price range so initially disregarded it.

“After speaking to my mortgage advisor about my options and what I could afford, I decided to take another look at Deanfield Meadow. I was really surprised that I could not only afford to buy there, but had enough to look at a three bedroom semi-detached. I couldn’t quite believe it.

“We had a look around the show home and I was really impressed with the quality of the home and finish. I also liked the fact of owning a brand new home.”

Lauren has purchased a three bedroom semi-detached, Blenheim at Deanfield Meadow. Lauren continues, “The sales advisor was really helpful and talked me through my options including Help to Buy. She guided me all the way, I don’t know what I would have done without her.

“Help to Buy has been really good as it has enabled me to get a larger property than I thought. I have my own inspirational Instagram page for home décor which is now being used in my own home.”

Deanfield Meadow features fourteen homes for private sale and twelve affordable homes. The homes range from two-bedroom semi–detached through to four-bedroom detached.

Help to Buy Enabled us to Buy our Dream Home

Testimonials

November 6, 2018In Testimonials3 Minutes

Jo and James Druce-Harding have realised their dream of owning their ‘forever’ home at Deanfield Meadow in Ducklington, Oxfordshire, thanks to the Government’s Help to Buy scheme.

Jo and James had been living in a three bedroom property in Witney for two years and really liked the area but after getting a dog, they decided they needed a house with a bigger garden and more space. They started to look around Witney at various properties and found a home they liked, but were unable to go ahead as their property hadn’t sold.

Jo comments, “After losing out on the property we wanted, we decided to continue to keep our house on the market, and weeks later we got a buyer. We started looking again and came across Deanfield Homes’ development, Deanfield Meadow in Ducklington.

“We arranged an appointment to view and the houses and development ticked all the boxes. It was just what we were looking for. The sales advisor mentioned the Government’s Help to Buy scheme. We had heard about it but I had just assumed we wouldn’t be eligible because of our incomes; we didn’t realise that it was based on the house price.

“After looking into it further we discovered that the Help to Buy scheme would allow us to increase our spending power and purchase the Dunsmore, a four bedroom detached home. The system was brilliant. We filled out the application form and they got back to us really quickly.

“If it hadn’t been for Help to Buy we would have had to buy a smaller property as a ‘stop gap’ and then think about moving again in a few years’ time, when we started a family. Now we have somewhere where we can stay for 15 to 20 years and raise a family.”

Jo and James have purchased a four bedroom home at Deanfield Meadow in Ducklington. Jo  continues, “We are delighted with our new home at Deanfield Meadow. All the properties are really beautiful and built to a high specification. It also appealed to us that the homes are on a small development, in a stunning village setting and built by a smaller housebuilder.

“Our new home has spacious liveable areas and we love the fact that we have a garage and separate utility room.  The village location is also ideal for us and there are great dog walks locally. It’s also really easy to get to work, with my job in Witney and James in Abingdon.

“Everyone at Deanfield Homes has been extremely helpful, taking us step by step through the whole process from reservation to completion and keeping us informed all the way.”
